What is E-waste?
E-waste, or electronic waste, is one of the world's biggest hidden problems. The reason why it is hidden is because the people who produce the most waste never have to see the effects of it. For example, Canada alone produced 725 000 tonnes of e-waste in 2020, and not many Canadians are aware of the full damage caused by their waste. the reason for this is that all of this waste is accepted by other countries' dumps, such as those in China, India, or Ghana.
At CanCycle, we realized that a huge issue here was not only the current damage it is causing those countries, but we also realize that at a certain point, those countries are going to refuse our trash and it will be our job as Canadians to recycle the 725 000 tonnes of e-waste within Canada instead.
As a result, we created CanCycle, so that Canada has a plan for when this inevitable happens in the not-so-distant future.
